FAIR TRADE MONTH IS UNDERWAY!

Published on

Actu mois équitable 2015

Every year, May is Fair Trade Month. Before 2015, only the first two weeks of the month were dedicated to fair trade. From now on, the festivities will continue throughout the month. Fair Trade Fortnight has become Fair Trade Month and the work of thousands of producers in the South will be celebrated for longer.

This annual event was established in 2001, thanks to our friends from the French Fair Trade Platform (PFCE). It’s a time to reflect on responsible consumption and international solidarity, and is not to be missed.

ACTIVITIES ACROSS QUEBEC

Various organizations across Quebec are offering discovery and awareness-raising activities, including seminars, trade fairs and contests, which will showcase fair-trade products.

The Association québécoise du commerce équitable [Quebec fair-trade association] has drawn up an exhaustive list of the activities to be held in various regions.

ÉQUITERRE INVITES YOU TO:

  • Fair Trade: A Human Journey - Éric St-Pierre's lunchtime talk
May 12 at 12:15 at the Centre for Sustainable Development.
Photojournalist Éric St-Pierre’s talk, Fair Trade: A Human Journey, is based on his book of the same name. He takes us around the world, right into the lives of women and men—artisans, peasants, workers—at the beginning of the chain of commerce who are thirsting for justice. Through bright, colourful landscapes and intimate, moving portraits, this journey through 15 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America presents 14 fair-trade products, from the most common, such as handicrafts, coffee and cacao, to the lesser known, such as shea butter, quinoa and guarana.

  • Enter a fair-trade contest (Facebook): Help us identify fair-trade outlets in Quebec for a chance to win a basket full of fair-trade products. Follow us on Facebook. The contest will be online on May 15.
