Massif-du-Sud wind farm gets conditional support from Equiterre

Published on

At a January 26 hearing of Quebec's environmental commission BAPE, we came out in favour of the Massif-du-Sud Wind Farm project. We see it as a viable source of renewable energy, with the potential to decrease Quebec's dependency on fossil fuels and help fight climate change. Our decision was affected by improvements to the original design, e.g., to lessen impact on songbird habitat.

But to be an environmental success, this project must take into account the concerns of local citizens and do everything possible to reduce the impact on wildlife, including setting up a conservation area in the region. The number of wind turbines present in Bicknell's Thrush habitat should be reduced or even eliminated, to avoid harming this songbird species.
