Three leading Canadian environmental groups join forces to ensure a strong climate strategy for Canada

Ottawa, ON, April 15, 2016 – Environmental Defence, Équiterre and the Pembina Institute announced a new partnership to secure a new, ambitious climate strategy for Canada. The agreement was signed during a public event on Parliament Hill in Ottawa yesterday evening.

In the next 12 months, the federal government will adopt a plan to dramatically reduce Canada’s carbon emissions and build a new and vibrant low-carbon economy.

The three organizations launched their partnership to ensure Canada’s climate plan reflects our international commitment to reduce emissions consistent with a global temperature limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Together, the organizations will deploy their research, convening and public engagement capacities to build cross-sectoral support for ambitious policy reforms that can meet the scale of this challenge.

This partnership will help ensure that Canada builds a coal-free electricity grid, supports low-carbon investments in the oil and gas sector, green buildings and electrify transportation options available to Canadians.

The three organizations are looking forward to representing perspectives from across Canada, thanks to their thousands of supporters and offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.
