Equiterre saddened by the death of Greenpeace's Dave Martin

We bemoan the loss of environmental activist Dave Martin, who passed away on September 9 at age 56.

Mr. Martin, who was on leave from his post as Energy Policy Analyst at Greenpeace, was a tireless promoter of clean energy. His work in this field began while he was still a student at the University of Toronto, where he was motivated to take action after the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. After graduation, he worked for the Nuclear Awareness Project. With his wife, Irene Kock, he founded the Durham Nuclear Awareness group. Over the years, he has been a vocal intervener with the Atomic Energy Control Board and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

Equiterre deputy executive director Steven Guilbeault, who had the pleasure of working with Mr. Martin for four years at Greenpeace, said, "He will be remembered most of all for his lifelong commitment to peaceful protest and his ability to inspire the young."
