Nearly 65% of Quebec's big produce buyers have taken steps towards sustainability, according to a groundbreaking new study by the Centre québécois de développement durable, which looked at the practices of 27 buyers from the public and private sector, including such major supermarket chains as Sobeys, Metro and Loblaws.

Here are some of the findings:

  • 81% of the buyers had implemented responsible procurement practices, 45% of them over the past three years.
  • 48% of the buyers saw minimal packaging made of reuseable, recycled or recyclable materials as a competitive advantage. 14% viewed it as a requirement.
  • 44% saw Quebec products as a competitive advantage.

Great news!
