50,000 people walk for the earth in Montreal

Actu - 50 000 personnes ont marché pour la Terre

More than 50,000 Quebecers gathered peacefully in downtown Montreal on Sunday, April 21 to Walk for the Earth and register opposition to pipeline projects that could soon bring tar sands crude from Alberta through Quebec.

The Walk – part of a larger, North American-wide movement against tar sands expansion – called attention to:

  • the dangers of dependence on fossil fuels
  • the reality of climate change
  • the rights of future generations

The Walk for the Earth shows that there is widespread support – from environmentalists, artists, scientists, labour leaders, students and Aboriginal communities alike – for a fossil fuel-free future.

Equiterre is proud to have co-organized this event with AQLPA, ENvironnement JEUnesse, the David Suzuki Foundation, Greenpeace and Nature Québec.

Thank you to all participants, and especially to our volunteers, who made this such a successful event.
