At the recent International Furnishing Show in Germany, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Fairtrade introduced a new type of furniture with dual FSC and Fairtrade labels. The wood, mainly from Bolivia, Chili and Honduras, is grown in forests managed according to strict ecological, social and economic criteria.
This initiative gives a boost to small producers of fair trade wood by offering a fair price for their work. The first FSC and Fairtrade certified wood furniture will be sold in Germany and Austria.
