US rejects Keystone XL, for now

Published on

Environmentalists across North America welcomed news that the Obama administration had said no to the Keystone XL pipeline project as currently proposed by TransCanada.

The project, valued at more than $7 billion, seeks to carry tar sands crude from Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico.

The State Department will, however, allow TransCanada to resubmit the project after it has changed the route to avoid the environmentally sensitive area of Sandhills, Nebraska.
