Montreal, October 7, 2011 – Three hundred and fifty people gathered yesterday at the Parquet of the Centre CDP Capital in Montreal for a reception, presided over by honorary chair Thierry Vandal, President and CEO of Hydro-Québec, that raised $115,000 for Equiterre’s work in food, agriculture, fair trade, responsible consumption, transportation, energy, sustainable building and climate change. Equiterre also thanks its principal partners, the Fédération des Producteurs de lait du Québec and Ivanhoe Cambridge, and major partners RONA and Desjardins, for their important contribution to the evening’s success.
Equiterre is a registered non-profit organization that helps build a social movement by encouraging individuals, organizations and governments to make ecological and equitable choices, in a spirit of solidarity. The organization, which is primarily funded by donations from its 6000 members and through the sale of services, also offers its expertise in sustainable development to businesses.
“The theme for this year’s event is change. We just inaugurated the Centre for Sustainable Development, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Equiterre and our partners. After years of working to make the Centre into a reality, we can congratulate ourselves on a mission accomplished and set our sights on new projects,” explains Sidney Ribaux, cofounder and executive director of Equiterre.
With the move to its new offices, the organization will intensify its work with the public. “Our headquarters are now in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles and we hope this increased visibility will help us inspire the thousands of citizens and organizations around us to help change the world,” says Ribaux.
Equiterre thanks its partners for the evening as well as the 150 organizations represented at the event for showing their support for its mission.
