Équiterre and the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables will help the Montreal Marathon become more environmentally responsible

The Montreal International Oasis Marathon has set the ambitious goal of becoming an environmentally friendly and zero waste event. To do so, it is opening its doors to Équiterre and the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables (CQEER) for a transparent evaluation and complete analysis of this year’s event, which will take place on September 21 and 22. The assessment will be a starting point from which the two organizations will develop an action plan to make the next editions of the Montreal Marathon more and more environmentally friendly.

Making events more environmentally friendly, one step at a time

“Équiterre is pleased to be involved in the greening of the Montreal Marathon, in collaboration with the CQEER,” states Colleen Thorpe, Équiterre’s Executive Director. “We have been able to prove with our Change the World Run and our guide for sustainable races that it’s possible to organize major events that are 100% eco-friendly and zero waste. On a larger scale, we’re happy to see the willingness of the Montreal Marathon to take on this ambitious objective.”

The focus for the coming years will be putting in place green alternatives, new practices, changing behaviours and creating awareness among participants. The Montreal International Oasis Marathon and its partners will thus set an example and inspire other sporting events around the world to follow suit.
