No Public Funds for Kinder Morgan : Equiterre's Petition

Tell the Prime Minister of Canada not to fund Texan oil giant Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline expansion with Canadian taxpayers’ money and to respect the rights of Indigenous communities and British Columbians, who have been dead set against the project for many months now.

Canadian taxpayers should not have to bear the brunt of the huge financial risk of this mad, backward-looking project. Considering the pan-Canadian climate plan and pledge before the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Canada can no longer invest our money in new infrastructure that will significantly increase GHG emissions and triple the flow of oil from Alberta’s tar sands, boosting volume from 300,000 to 890,000 barrels per day (1).

Is Canada a leader in the fight against climate change?

True climate leaders, like the World Bank and AXA (one of the world’s biggest insurance groups), as well as many other stakeholders, are embracing the energy transition and divesting from fossil fuels.

It’s time to make our government realize that we cannot protect the environment if the economy depends on oil.
