Signing up for a basket of fresh fruit and vegetables from one of our family farmers is a good way to eat well, encourage local agriculture and reduce middlemen. But if, for some reason, that's not possible for you, don't despair: there are other options.
To make it easier for you, Equiterre has made an online directory, Manger local au Québec,* for Quebecers interested in learning about some of the other local food initiatives in their regions. It includes
- public markets
- online markets
- solidarity markets
- grocery stores and other organizations that deal directly with farmers
how to use the directory: A step-by-step guide
- Scroll down the Manger local au Québec page until you see a tan box.
- Choose your area from the "Emplacement" menu, e.g., Montréal, Estrie, Outaouais.
- In some cases, you will be asked to choose your neighbourhood, e.g., Baie d'Urfé, Beaconsfield.
- Choose a type of point of sale from the "Type de point de vente" menu.
- Click "Appliquer."
Not sure what some of the words mean? Here they are in English
- Tout » All
- Autres paniers de légumes » Other baskets of vegetables
- Épiceries et commerces » Grocery stores and shops
- Hôtels, restaurants et institutions publiques » Hotels, restaurants and public institutions

Bon appetit!
