For its 50th anniversary, the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec is awarding the Blanche-Lemco-Van-Ginkel prize to thirty public figures in a variety of fields for their contribution to the development of urban planning in Quebec. Amongst them: Equiterre cofounder and senior director, Steven Guilbeault.
The prizes will be presented during the Ordre's 50th anniversary Gala to be held at the Palais des congrès.
"It's a great honour to receive this prize, which pays tribute to a Quebec urban planning pioneer whose influence is still felt here today," said Steven Guilbeault.
Blanche Lemco van Ginkel is a Canadian architect who is known for her efforts to preserve the architectural heritage of Old Montreal and for her involvement in the planning and initial designs for Expo 67. If Old Montreal does not have a highway running through it today, it is thanks, in part, to this visionary's ability to combine architecture with urban planning.
