In 2002, Equiterre resolved to offer employees and volunteers a healthier, more accessible workplace.
At the same time, we started to develop our expertise in sustainable building, calling for new standards and practices for construction and renovation. We have since launched two green building projects: the Centre for Sustainable Development (currently under construction and slated to become our headquarters in summer 2011) and Écologez, a design contest for students.
The Centre for Sustainable Development
The Centre for Sustainable Development (Maison du développement durable) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build and operate a demonstration certified LEED Platinum green building. Project goals:
- share space and resources with 8 other social and environmental organizations
- become an idea launch pad for sustainable development
- provide citizens, businesses and governments with information on sustainable development
- lead the way for green building in Canada
Écologez green building design contest
In 2006, with the École de technologie supérieure, Equiterre established Écologez, an integrated designcompetition for green building at the university level.
