Ottawa, November 27, 2025 — Today’s agreement between the federal government and Alberta’s premier represents a weakening of the environmental measures developed in recent years.
The government is choosing to replace concrete measures with promises that look more like greenwashing than real environmental action — including the notion of “decarbonized oil.”
The prime minister’s strategy has marginalized British Columbia, the province that would bear all the consequences of a pipeline project and the presence of oil tankers along the coast, putting its coastal and Indigenous communities — as well as its biodiversity — at risk. It also cost him a minister who remembered the principles he once defended.
It’s clear that this is not how you build Canada.
