Benefit Event 2021

Published on

A UNIQUE, STIMULATING AND INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE - A GATEWAY TO BUILDING A GREENER AND MORE JUST SOCIETY

The National Bank invites you to participate in Équiterre’s annual benefit event, in the form of a virtual conference. The theme of this year’s event is 'The Circular Economy: Jobs of the Future'. The conference will offer participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with associations active in this field.

This virtual event will be accessible to everyone (members and non-members alike).

>> The benefit event will be held in French <<

CIRCULAR ECONOMY: FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE

The circular economy encompasses production, exchange and sharing practices designed to optimize resource use while reducing our environmental footprint. It stands in stark contrast to the linear economic system, which is based on raw material extraction and massive production of goods. These goods are then rapidly consumed and often too quickly sent to the landfill.

A troubling statistic: today, over 90% of the materials extracted from our planet are used but once!

The core strategies underlying the circular economy are to foster reduction at source, reuse and repair. This in turn helps generate social progress.

The circular economy can play a fundamental role in a green recovery and offer concrete solutions for job sectors affected by economic and environmental disruptions.

On the program this year:

An inspiring exchange of ideas among circular economy experts:

Béatrice Alain
Executive Director at Chantier de l'Économie Sociale

Claude Maheux Picard
Executive Director at Centre de transfert technologique en écologie industrielle

Colleen Thorpe

Here are some questions that will be addressed during the event:

  • How can the transition to a circular economy help eradicate the damaging effects of the extractive economy?
  • Why is this transition necessary?
  • What changes can be expected in the labour market as a result of the shift to a circular economy?
  • What obstacles stand in the way of the transition to a circular economy? What are the transition’s promised benefits?
  • Are there other relevant models elsewhere in the world?
