Greenhouse gases (GHG)

Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are naturally occurring gases in the Earth's atmosphere that help trap heat near the Earth's surface. While this natural process has allowed the development and maintenance of life on our planet, the concentration of certain gases has increased over the last two centuries, following the industrial revolution. This increase in GHGs is at the origin of climate disruptions, including the increase in the frequency of extreme weather events. In 2019, in Quebec, the transportation sector was responsible for nearly 45% of total GHG emissions.
