Mark Carney must do better
More than a year after being elected, it’s clear that Mark Carney is not who we thought he was.
Since taking office, the Prime Minister has repeatedly rolled back environmental protections under the pretext of building a strong and prosperous Canada. Mark Carney consistently adopts a rhetoric intended to portray him as protecting the interests of Canadians, while at the same time making choices that negatively affect our health, our well-being and our budgets. There are many red flags, with significant consequences that should concern us all.
The Prime Minister seems to have forgotten that he was elected to serve Canadians. What Canadians need right now is more resilient infrastructure to adapt to and protect ourselves from the harmful effects of climate change.
The honeymoon is over. Mark Carney must do better.
There are too many red flags:
🚩Adopting laws that circumvent environmental protections and assessments
🚩Announcing a pipeline during an extreme heat wave
🚩Eliminating protections against greenwashing
🚩Cutting $5 billion from public transit projects
🚩Suspending electric vehicle mandates
🚩Opening the door to pesticides that have been deemed dangerous for people and the environment
🚩Abolishing the Office of Consumer Affairs dedicated to protecting consumers

Novembre 2025
🚩Measures to combat greenwashing are abolished
Weakening of the Competition Act, once again allowing companies to mislead consumers about their environmental practices.
🚩A provision to circumvent ALL laws and regulations is added
Introduction of a budgetary measure creating a regulatory “sandbox,” where certain economic sectors are exempt from virtually all laws in the name of innovation.
🚩$5 billion is cut from public transit funding
Though our public transportation system is sorely lacking funds to meet the public’s needs, Carney cut $5 billion from the budget allocated for public transportation projects.
🚩A Memorandum of Understanding is signed with Alberta to build pipelines
Without proper consultation, an agreement is signed to build a pipeline that puts British Columbia’s Indigenous peoples and the region’s sensitive ecosystems at risk. Talk about a red flag!

🚩The Electric Vehicle Standard is abandoned
The requirement for manufacturers to make electric vehicles available on the Canadian market is removed, to the benefit of the automotive industry.

🚩The Office of Consumer Affairs is abolished
The only federal agency responsible for promoting the interests and rights of consumers.
🚩An announcement is made about a permanent bypass of our environmental protections
Launch of consultations aimed at allowing all major projects to be permanently exempt from environmental protections and the Species at Risk Act.
🚩An agreement is signed with Alberta to weaken the carbon price
Agreement with Alberta aimed at weakening the carbon price, jeopardizing the country’s carbon neutrality goals. Exemption granted to Alberta from the clean electricity regulations.Juin 2026
🚩Products deemed hazardous to human health and the environment are authorized
Authorization to market pesticides whose risks to human health and the environment have been deemed unacceptable.
🚩Canada’s 2030 greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reduction targets are abandoned
The previous government’s GHG reduction targets are rejected amid the dismantling of all environmental protections.

🚩A proposed pipeline to the West is announced
A pipeline running from Alberta to British Columbia is designated as a project of national interest, with an estimated cost of $43 billion to Canadian taxpayers. The announcement was made at the same time as a deadly heat wave was sweeping the globe and wildfires ravaged forests, polluting the air in Canada and beyond.
