« COP 21 historic agreement » has already proved a success as demonstrated by these few actions taken to fight climate change early this year.
In January 2016 only, three great victories to which we are proud to have contributed have made the headlines:
- 82 municipal counsellors, representing 3.9 million citizens in the greater Montreal region, have issued a resounding ‘no’ to the Energy East project and to TransCanada Corporation;
- Equiterre and more than 70 organisations sent a letter to the prime minister and premiers asking them to continue achieving the goal of working to stabilize temperatures below 1.5 degrees of warming. This letter has been published in many newspaper and online media accross the country.
- The Minister of Natural Resources Canada, Jim Carr, announced new assessment requirements for pipelines, including a "climate test", has required by quiterre for year.
We welcome these initiatives and hope it's only the tip of the iceberg to reduce our GHG emissions and fight climate change in 2016!
