On Sunday, July 3, hundreds of committed people took part in the first Change the World with Équiterre run on Mount Royal. This entirely environmentally responsible event took place in the glorious sunshine and participants raising funds for the environment collected $25,000.

It was smiles all round at the event, which included a yoga/stretch session, scenic routes and original festive entertainment, all enhanced by the fantastic team of friendly, dedicated volunteers.

The green run even received coverage in the media, which emphasized the importance of the sustainable practices adopted: No water bottles, t-shirts or other unnecessary non-green promotional items were distributed; reusable timing chips were used; the bibs were printed on FSC-certified paper; the food available was local organic and/or fair trade, and bikes, hybrid or electric vehicles were used to get around and transport materials. We reached our goal: to create a new sports fundraising event with the smallest possible environmental footprint—a new model for this type of activity where a change in practice would benefit everyone.

The first edition of this designated fair-trade event was a success, so it looks set to continue in the coming years!

Thank you to our partners: Ville de Montréal, Les amis de la montagne, Renaissance and the Quebec Association of Fair Trade.

And thank you to our sponsors: Savonnerie des Diligences, Fourmi bionique, Tourne-sol Co-operative Farm, Équifruit, La Clef des champs, Crudessence, Camino, Le Baluchon Eco Resort, Physéquilibre, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Canyon Sainte-Anne, Cinéma Beaubien, Family Farmer Network, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Vélo Québec, Aquarium du Québec, Metro, Communauto, Théâtre de Quat’Sous, Eau Renaissance, Classe 3 Évènements, Paré Brosseau Assurances and Kangaride.
