Back for a third season, this project offers establishments (schools, childcare services, organizations and daycare centres) an original and educational fundraising campaign based on the sale of baskets of local, organic vegetables grown by farms belonging to Équiterre’s network of family farmers. Suggest this alternative to traditional fundraising campaigns and promote the initiative in your school, childcare service, organization or daycare centre. Thanks to the Schools Take Root campaign, you’ll also be promoting the benefits of eating healthy, local and sustainable food!

A win-win campaign

In addition to offering establishments a campaign that’s compatible with their values, Schools Take Root is a unique opportunity to teach kids and their families about the importance of healthy, local and organic food.

The campaign also offers a win-win formula for farmers and establishments. While raising funds to support projects within different communities, the campaign helps support the local economy and our farmers. Schools receive $6 from each basket sold.

Lastly, the Schools Take Root campaign is environmentally friendly! Not only does it encourage reduced packaging and food miles, but all the vegetables are grown without synthetic pesticides and GMOs.

Present the Schools Take Root campaign to your establishment and sign up for fall 2018!

To participate in the Schools Take Root project in the fall of 2018, registration must be completed before the end of the school year (end of June 2018). A family farmer will grow your delicious, pesticide-free vegetables this summer! How great is that?!

When presenting the project to the administrators of your establishment, we suggest that you show them the Schools Take Root videos and the information sheet.

In 2017, 21 schools and childcare services took part in Schools Take Root fundraising campaigns

In total, nearly 1,500 baskets of local, organic vegetables were sold to raise funds during the fall of 2017. The proceeds were used to finance initiatives such as teaching gardens, cooking workshops, schoolyard makeover projects and educational activities and to procure teaching materials in schools and childcare services in Montreal and Montérégie.

Many of the parents who participated in the campaign mentioned the excitement and enthusiastic involvement of the children on the day of delivery. “The very next day, my son insisted we make one of the recipes suggested by the farmer. My daughter wanted to use the Algonquin squash because it tied in with her history class,” said one of the participating parents at École Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf in Montreal.
