On Friday, four determined young men started their 6962-m assent of Mount Aconcagua in the Andes Mountains of Argentina. This is the 5th expedition for the Marathon vertical project, which involves climbing the highest mountains on seven continents to raise money for the environment. All proceeds will be split evenly between Equiterre and the Agissonsvert awareness-raising campaign.
Alexandre Rolland, Nicholas Rolland, Oury Dal Bianco and Sébastien Carelli will be updating their blog regularly during the 20-some days it should take them to complete the climb.•
This project is an initiative of Oury Dal Bianco and Sébastien Carelli. These two nature lovers, worried about the rapid degradation of the great outdoors, decided to do something about it.
The event is called a marathon because the combined heights of the seven chosen peaks equal about 42 km – the distance usually run in a marathon. The team has already climbed Mount McKinley in Alaska (which required two expeditions), Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and Elbrus in Russia.
