By popular request, grocery store chain IGA is restocking its shelves with fair trade bananas.
IGA had briefly replaced fair trade organic bananas from Quebec-based, family-run business Equicosta with organic – but not fair trade – bananas from multinational Dole.
When Equiterre's members and supporters heard this, they launched a social media campaign. IGA responded right away with an announcement saying that it would return to Equicosta bananas.
Kudos to IGA for setting such a good example. Let's hope that more grocery stores will show the same support for fair trade.
