institutions eat local

The “Institutions Eat Local!” event is back for a third consecutive year to celebrate local foods across Quebec.

All Quebec institutions are invited to take part, by proposing small or large initiatives for their food services which seek to help make customers aware of the importance of selecting local products.

The last two editions of this event mobilized more than 48,500 participants across Quebec, impacting more than 188,000 people.

A COLLABORATIVE EVENT

The “Institutions Eat Local!” event is an opportunity for institutions to forge links with biofood players in their region and to become aware of possible improvements in their food procurement practices. The table de concertation bioalimentaire in different regions can help organize activities and put institutions in touch with local producers and processors.

A variety of activities can be organized in childcare centres, schools, CEGEPs, universities, healthcare establishments and even in the office. Download the ideas box for inspiration.

TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR EFFORTS IN LOCAL FOOD PROCUREMENT

Équiterre has developed a new tool to help demystify local food procurement and to help institutions make the transition to sustainable food.

A recipe for local and environmentally responsible food procurement in Québec institutions

This tool includes a series of 8 practical sheets to inspire and equip food services in various sectors. Reading like a recipe, these fact sheets list all required ingredients, the preparation steps, tips and tricks, as well as inspiring success stories. They also provide resources to support institutions in their efforts. They are available in French and in English.

COMMUN’ASSIETTE IS RECRUITING

Commun’assiette, a community of practice around sustainable institutional food, is currently recruiting members and collaborators to expand the community. A great opportunity to meet other motivated players in the field, to learn and be inspired! For more information, please register for the information meeting which will take place on September 14 at 1:00 pm.
