Odin arrived in Quebec from Marseille a few years ago as an exchange student at the Université de Montréal to finish his degree in geography. Eager to explore Quebec—see the autumn colours and experience white winters—and make a difference, he decided to settle in Montreal in the summer of 2015. Curious by nature, he discovered Équiterre on his own.
Odin doesn’t count the hours he puts in at Équiterre or spends telemarketing on evenings and weekends. His involvement in events on the ground, which includes running transportation cocktail booths on university campuses and collecting signatures for the Save our Route Verte petition, is outstanding and greatly appreciated. “I always dreamed of working for an environmental NGO, and I had a good feeling about Équiterre as soon as I walked in the door!” he says. What Odin loves most is knowing that he can really help change the world, one step at a time.
A young eco-warrior
When he was a small child, Odin’s parents talked to him about environmental issues and responsible consumption and bought local organic produce. He soon wanted to follow in their footsteps and share their values with others.
Odin loves the winter and outdoor activities. He dreams about pedestrianizing Duluth Street in Montreal. “It may be unrealistic, but I hope we can turn the street into a green alleyway one day, and then build a corridor from Mount Royal Park to Lafontaine Park.”
Passionate about geopolitics, urban ecology and environmental and social issues, he also wants to get involved in improving the recycling system and sustainable development projects—and he’d like to pursue these large-scale projects at Équiterre.
