The hearings on Quebec's green paper for an agri-food policy that were supposed to take place this fall have been postponed once again.
They have been rescheduled for January 2012, which means that there is no chance of any legislation being drafted before the spring.
This is just one more delay in a process that began more than three and a half years ago, when the Provonost report was first released.
Equiterre will continue to monitor this issue closely.
Our demands for the new policy
- Easier access to organic local food (e.g., reimburse the cost of organic certification)
- Support for the next generation of farmers (e.g., protect the agricultural status of farmland, particularly in semi-rural areas on the outskirts of our cities)
