In 2016, some 265,500 people took part in 574 running events in Quebec. The environmental footprint of these events is significant. Single use plastic water bottles, cheap promotional items such as medals, T shirts and running kits, GHG emissions from event travel and a lack of environmentally sound waste management are just some of the contributing factors. Knowing that we can produce up to five times more waste at an event than in our everyday lives is worrying!

A run and a guide to change the world

In an effort to find solutions and implement responsible practices, Équiterre has created the first 100% sustainable running event in Quebec (sign up for the run on May 27), as well as a guide for changing the world at such events and improving practices for both organizers and runners.

May 23: Launch of the guide, a green running demonstration and an athlete panel discussion

Équiterre would like to invite you to a special event to highlight the launch of this essential guide to making events sustainable, the greening of the sports event industry and good practices for participants.

Runners will demonstrate how to be green at running events

2. Panel discussion on sustainable practices at running events
