Last week, the Maison du développement durable in Montreal's Quartier des spectacles held a ceremony to unveil a plaque from the Green Building Council of Canada certifying it as a LEED® Platinum New Construction (NC), the highest possible distinction in an internationally recognized rating system for green buildings. The Maison du développement durable is the first building of its kind in the province to obtain this status.
During the ceremony, Josée Lupien, chair of the Quebec chapter of the Green Building Council of Canada, gave the plaque to Sidney Ribaux, chair of the board of directors for the Maison du développement durable and executive director of Equiterre.
"This certification confirms that the Maison du développement durable is one of the greenest buildings in North America. We hope that it will encourage others to find new, better ways of doing things. Hence its multi-pronged mission: demonstration, education and research," says Sidney Ribaux.
Also in attendance were guests of honour and collaborators who had contributed to the project, which took ten years to complete. To cap off the festivities, the circus troupe 7 doigts de la main performed an acrobatic number.

The Maison du développement durable recently added new interactive stations to its green building discovery tour, which is open to the public Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Simply drop by 50 Ste-Catherine St. West!
