Toward an unprecedented, transformative mobilization to tackle the environmental crisis

Published on

2020, a year like no other, is behind us, and all eyes are now on the coming decade; a decade that will be pivotal for the future of humanity and the health of our planet.

The latest IPCC report painted an alarming picture. Irreversible changes to our planet’s climate systems and our major ecosystems may have already occurred, and our window for action is narrowing. We have 10 years to act. The era of “small steps” is over. We need to make deep and systemic changes on multiple fronts if we are to maintain a viable planet for human beings and all the life forms that surround us.

It is in this context that Équiterre’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025 was created. Entitled Toward an unprecedented, transformative mobilization to tackle the environmental crisis, it is a basis for major changes in our agri-food, transportation and economic systems.

Three big transition projects

Équiterre is working to accelerate the transition toward a greener and more just society through three projects that seek to transform how we eat, how we get around and how we produce and consume. Our experts in awareness, mobilization and public policy will continue to work to influence governments, organizations and citizens around these three projects.

The following video provides some context, outlining some of the major issues in each of our transition projects (in French).

Resolutely focused on the future

I am extremely happy with the important role that Équiterre will play in the coming years to help Quebec society achieve these systemic, collective transitions.

The pandemic has taught us to be resilient. Let’s use that resilience to tackle the climate crisis in order to ensure a viable and bright future.

The time has come to re-establish our priorities. The time has come for a profound and sustainable transformation.
