Striving to build a strong, resilient, and proud Canada is certainly commendable. However, building a new oil pipeline in the name of fulfilling that ambition is completely absurd.
Continuously repeating the conditions that led us to failure can only yield the same results. In this context, fast-tracking yet another oil project means keeping Canada locked into an outdated fossil-fuel-based model, while the rest of the world is turning to renewable energy.
That is why Équiterre opposes the West Coast oil pipeline project and demonstrates that it contradicts the conditions that would allow it to be classified as a matter of national interest.
