Actu - Bruno Demers boursier Laure Waridel 2011

When you join Equiterre, $1 goes to the Laure Waridel student bursary for research on environmental and social action, an amount that is matched by the Caisse d'économie solidaire Desjardins, a Quebec-based credit union.

This year's $10,000 prize has been awarded to Bruno Demers – an MA in sociology – for his project on recycled and reclaimed materials in construction.

Since realizing just how much waste is incurred during construction, Bruno has made it his mission to reduce construction waste in the city of Montreal. He is already using his prize to study examples of American community-based initiatives to curb waste in this sector.

You can follow his efforts on Facebook, where he posts regular updates:

Congratulations to Bruno from all of us at Equiterre!

And thank you to our members for supporting the environmental leaders of tomorrow.
