Earlier this fall, seventy preschoolers from CPE Bobino daycare visited Les Jardins Glenorra organic farm as part of Croqu'Plaisir, a pilot project that helps participating Montérégie daycares serve more local food – and explain why.
The children listened to a story about a green bean in a colourful garden before touring the fields, where they saw:
- Brussels sprouts
- squash
- celery
- black radishes
For many of the children, these were new sights, and new flavours.
At the end of the visit, the children were given small pumpkins to decorate with such found objects as buttons, leaves and pennies. They proudly took these works of art home with them, to show their parents.
