Enjoy fresh local organic produce even in winter

If you love locally grown organic fruit and veggies and want to enjoy them all winter, now’s the time to sign up with a family farmer.

Winter baskets are full of carefully stored fruits and vegetables from the summer’s and early autumn’s bountiful harvests. They include squash, cabbages, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, kale, onions, garlic, beetroot, kohlrabi, turnips and leeks. Farmers sometimes put in greenhouse tomatoes, sprouts, endives, apples and homemade products, too. Each basket is a surprise of 6 to 12 varieties of vegetables, so you can eat local and organic all year round!

Winter baskets work the same way as summer ones: you sign up for the season and pick up your basket at the drop-off point at the set time and date. Plus you get to chat about seasonal produce and recipes with your family farmer! Winter baskets are usually delivered twice a month.

New addition to the network

This autumn, Bio Locaux—a group of 25 farmers new to the family farmer network—is helping us expand by offering 1,000 more winter basket subscriptions in Montreal! Bio Locaux is an innovative collective project developed by the Coopérative pour l’agriculture de proximité écologique [eco-friendly local farming co-op].

Sign up soon to receive good local produce this winter by entering your home or workplace postal code at paniersbio.org/en. While there are 13,000 summer subscriptions, just 2,500 are available in winter.

New recipes!

Short of ideas for cooking the goodies in your basket? Équiterre has just created a new Facebook group: organic basket recipes. Regulars and newcomers are welcome to share their recipes—simplified or detailed!
