Fair trade in figures

Published on

In 2007, there were more than 632 producer organizations with fair trade certification in more than 58 countries, helping 1.5 million farmers and workers make a living wage. When the families of these workers are taken into account, the number of people estimated to directly benefit from fair trade practices extends to 7.5 million (1).

In recent years, sales of fair trade certified products have seen a remarkable increase, with many new products on the market. However, there is still a long way to go before this socially responsible form of trade redefines marketing practices.
