As part of the Electrifying Canada’s School Bus Fleet: Challenges, Lessons Learned and Solutions conference, the Canadian Electric School Bus Alliance (CESBA) presents Leading Electric School Bus Adoption at the Provincial Level – a panel fostering knowledge-exchange between key government players in leading provinces.
Focusing on Prince Edward Island and British Columbia, this session will outline the current state of electric school buses (ESBs) in each province, existing ESB adoption targets, as well as innovative policies and approaches being taken by the government.
Hear from policy experts from leading provincial governments in a panel discussion moderated by Trottier Family Foundation’s Jean-Patrick Toussaint.
The panel will take place virtually on Thursday, June 1 at 1pm ET and will be followed by a question period. The event is open to all actors working to advance ESBs in their communities, especially government stakeholders.

David McKay is a Senior Policy Analyst working with the Clean Transportation Branch within the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. In this role, David manages and develops funding programs designed to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. David is currently leading the Province’s CleanBC Go Electric School Bus Program, the Go Electric Public Charger Program, and the Go Electric Hydrogen Fuelling and Fleets program.

Matt Collins is the Manager of Engineering Services with the PEI Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. Matt has been instrumental in the implementation of the electrification of the Prince Edward Island school bus fleet. He has been an active contributing member of the Provincial Sustainable Transportation Action Plan, the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Zero Emission Vehicle Group, the Infrastructure Grid Readiness Working Group with NRCan, and the Transportation Association of Canada’s Technology Council. Matt was also a contributor to the NRCan Atlantic Climate Adaptation Solutions manuals.

Trained as a biologist, Jean-Patrick holds a PhD in environmental sciences. During his career, he has conducted academic
research and worked on a variety of environmental and climate files with various national and international non-governmental organizations. Prior to joining the Trottier Family Foundation, Jean-Patrick was Senior Advisor on Francophone Affairs at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), and had been responsible for a portfolio of climate adaptation and mitigation projects as a capacity building advisor for the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program. Passionate about his field, Jean-Patrick is an environmental columnist
